About Red

Well, hello there.

Red

I’m Red (a.k.a. Lyndsay) — scientist, nutritionist, musician, maker, photographer, lifelong learner and collector of far too many interests to fit neatly into one box.

Red Queen Renaissance is the box I eventually decided to build instead.

I’m interested in how things work, how ideas connect, why people behave the way they do, and how useful knowledge can be made more understandable without stripping away all the complexity that made it interesting in the first place.

A polymath, apparently

I’ve never been particularly good at choosing just one thing.

My background spans science, nutrition, health, psychology, music, photography, art, technology, dog behaviour, practical problem-solving and whatever else has managed to catch my curiosity along the way.

Some of that comes from formal study and qualifications. Some comes from work. Some comes from making things, fixing things, getting things wrong, trying again and asking far too many questions.

“I drink and I know things” was already taken, so apparently I’m a polymath.

How Red Queen Renaissance happened

For a long time, I thought a lot of the things I loved had been left behind.

Music. Art. Photography. Making things. Learning for the sheer joy of it. Parts of myself that had gradually disappeared behind health problems, caring responsibilities, life changes and the general business of surviving.

Then I started trying some of those doors again.

Music came back first. Then creativity. Then curiosity began turning into projects, experiments and increasingly ridiculous tangents.

Eventually I realised I didn’t need to force all those different parts of myself into separate boxes.

Red Queen Renaissance became the place where they could belong together.

Not a reinvention of who I am, really. More a return to the parts that were still there — with a few new ones picked up along the way

What I bring to it

I bring a slightly unreasonable mixture of formal training, practical skills, creative experience and lived experience to Red Queen Renaissance.

I’ve studied science and nutrition academically, worked creatively, performed music, photographed people and places, built and repaired things, learned new technologies, lived with complicated systems and spent a lot of time figuring out how to make difficult things work better in the real world.

What interests me most, though, is what happens between disciplines.

A scientific idea might help explain a behaviour. A design problem might turn into a lesson about accessibility. A piece of technology might change how somebody learns. A personal experience might expose a wider problem in a system.

I like finding those connections, testing them, and turning them into something useful.

That might be an explanation, a project, a piece of music, a practical workaround, a question worth asking or simply a different way of looking at something familiar.

Why I do this

Because I genuinely like helping people.

I like the moment when something confusing starts to make sense. When somebody finds a workaround that makes life easier. When a piece of information gives them more agency. When an idea helps them see themselves, another person or a difficult situation a little more clearly.

A lot of useful knowledge is locked behind jargon, specialist language, inaccessible systems or the assumption that everyone learns, works and thinks in roughly the same way.

I don’t think complexity needs to be flattened to become accessible.

Translation, not ownership.

I’m not interested in pretending I invented ideas that already exist. I’m interested in finding useful ways to connect them, explain them, test them and make them easier to use in ordinary life.

Red Queen Renaissance is my way of putting something positive back into the world — one explanation, experiment, project, question, photograph, song or ridiculous tangent at a time.

Found me in the wild?

There’s a fair chance you didn’t arrive here through Google at all.

Maybe you tapped the NFC wristband on my arm. Maybe we met at a gig, while I was walking the dogs, during some random adventure, or because I started talking to you about something and accidentally disappeared down a twenty-minute rabbit hole.

That is, apparently, one of the ways Red Queen Renaissance spreads.

The wristband exists because I wanted an easy way to say, “Here — this is the place where all the things I keep talking about actually live.”

So if we’ve met somewhere out in the wild: hello again.

And if we haven’t, you’re still very welcome to wander around and see which door catches your curiosity.

Explore Red Queen Renaissance

Red Queen Renaissance is bigger than any one page — or any one version of me.

Its different branches explore science, learning, music, photography, art, practical making, beauty, dog behaviour, perspectives, reflection and the many places those things overlap.

Some doors lead somewhere practical. Some lead somewhere creative. Some lead straight into a rabbit hole.
